Hi, I'm Katie! And welcome! I am so happy you've found my little corner of the internet!
I started Lil & Ted's Upcycled Adventure in the summer of 2017, but back then, it started as an extension of something I was already doing for my own two kids - turning donated and discarded adult-sized clothes into kid-sized clothes. I really, really loved sewing clothes (and I still do!), but I realized that doing it as a business wasn't quite right for me. I did some soul-searching (and pattern searching!) and returned to one of my first loves - bags and purses! I made my first upcycled bag from a pair of jeans when I was in 9th grade. I shattered at least one needle on my mom's sewing machine while working on that bag, because I had never sewn denim before and had no idea how strong it can be! I'm pretty sure I still have that bag hanging around here somewhere, so if I find it, I'll definitely share some pictures! All of the fabrics I use are either from thrift-store garments, or they are scraps and remnants, often purchased from other sewists who would have otherwise discarded them. I also get most of my hardware from bags that I have disassembled - and I make sure that any new hardware that I use is reusable, so if someone takes apart one of my bags in the future, they'll be able to reuse the parts just like I'm doing with older bags! |
